A visitor visa, also referred to as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), is an immigration document that allows foreign nationals to travel and enter into Canada. Visitors are all those persons who are legally authorized to enter Canada but are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Individuals may travel to Canada for purposes such as: tourism or holidays, visiting family, conducting business, etc.
Visitors with a temporary visa can stay in Canada for up to six (6) months. The details will be stated on your passport to inform you of the date on which you must leave the country.
Foreign nationals from visa-exempt countries do not need to apply for a visitor visa, but they still need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). This is a digital travel document that is issued to visa-exempt travelers traveling to or transiting through Canada by air. The cost is $7 CAD, and it is usually approved and issued within minutes.
